Looking down into the Sea this morning the only clouds I can see are the thin whispys passing over the cape area again this morning. It looks like they will continue all day extending as far south as Mazatlan. I can also see a few light bands of whispys here and there around the Sea this morning.
These are coming from a very active ITCZ/Monsoon trough and from the debris moisture from former tropical storm Alvin.
There is also another moisture plume originating from the ITCZ/Monsoon trough out around 136W that streams NE spilling into southern California this morning.
Back on the mainland; the Gulf of Tehuantepec remains quiet with only light northerlies in the forecast for the next 3 days.
Nothing going on in our Tropical Kitchen this morning, however looking out into the Atlantic that Tropical Wave that we have been watching cross the Atlantic is currently in the eastern Caribbean and will reach the western Caribbean on Wednesday night. Models are showing a low forming there that could spin into something tropical.
Over here in the Pacific a second low is also expected to develop along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough Wednesday night into Thursday. If that tropical wave makes it into the Eastern Pacific basin it will be looking for a lonely low to stimulate so we could have something tropical happening this weekend. We’ll see?
This time of year these storms usually develop either within the ITCZ/Monsoon trough or very close to it and stay in the warmer waters down there, normally posing no danger to the Baja peninsula.
That’s what is going on our hood this morning. Looking now north to the west coast of America of America where a very vigorous and very cold low has moved down from the Gulf of Alaska and is now just off the Washington coast. This bad boy will be bringing snow down to around 4000 feet in Washington State today and temperatures will drop as much as 20 degrees from yesterday.
The low will also dip down the coast into Oregon today bringing snow levels there down to around 3000 feet. All his nasty weather if forecast to last into the Memorial Day Weekend for the Great Northwest when the low will weaken and decrease the shower activity.
For northern California it looks like only around the California/Oregon border will see any rain from this system. The Sacramento valley should be dry with temperatures in the mid 80s all week.
In southern California it will be a little cooler as this front passes to the north this week. It will also be a bit gusterly in the afternoons and evenings. In general the southland can expect to see their typical May Grey conditions along the coast into the weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where high pressure blankets the region with dry and above normal temperatures forecast through mid week. It is also forecast to be breezy each day into the weekend.
That Alaskan low will move into the Great Basin late in the week allowing a slight cooling but dry trend into the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence it looks like we will have one more day of moderate northerlies then probably a week of moderate southerlies.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light NE today, high teens from the SE tomorrow and mid teens from the SSE on Thursday.
The central Sea: San Francisquito south to Santa Rosalia light NE today, then mid teens tomorrow and Thursday from the SE.
The southern Sea, Puerto Escondido, the San Lorenzo channel, La Paz and the nearby islands mostly moderate southerlies for the 3-day forecast period. The islands and the channel could see some moderate NE today though.
The East Cape: mid to high teens for the 3-day forecast period. Today from the WNW, tomorrow SE and then returning to the WNW on Thursday.
The Sonoran passage: the mid teens from the SW for the next 3 days.
The Mexican Riviera: light to moderate from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
Temperatures in the high 80s to the low 90s in the Sea today.

73s Y’all
