Hurricane Katia transitioned into a Extra-tropical system a few days ago, and tracked towards the UK. It has now hit, with a big variation across the UK.

Parts of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are being buffeted with Tropical Storm Force Winds:
"The deep area of low pressure which was contains post-tropical cyclone Katia is moving closer to western Scotland. Winds are strengthening, currently meaning 55 mph and gusting to 72 mph at Capel Curig in the mountains of North Wales. Elsewhere winds are widely gusting to 40+ mph, with further strengthening expected through Monday." - Sourced from the Met-Office website.

The media have been predicting a natural disaster, and it seems like they are wrong. Like normal.

Meanwhile, here in Ipswich, we are getting about 10-15mph sustained winds, and very light rain. Also it feels like its about 20c already at the moment. It is really hot for 07:39 in the morning.

I expect Katia to probably be alot intenser than predictions state in the mountainous areas, however I think she will bottom out around 969 mbar and with winds about 80-100 mph. I expect there will be limited damage however, apart from a few powerlines down etc etc, due to how buildings are constructed here compared to the US.

Its an incredibly impressive system for a Cape Verde invest 13 days into the 2010 Hurricane Season.I am very impressed by the overall structure of 92L, while it looks rather mangy cloud wise it has incredibly good potential and could become TD1 within 12-48 hours. After then I reckon 92L w...
