Disaster Accountability Project report finds local plans not available.
Obama at FEMA
"They don't have a plan, they don't have a set of contingencies that will allow them to respond in an effective way.'' The President was apparently referring to a Mason-Dixon poll of coastal residents released on May 29 which found that 55 percent did not have a family disaster plan and 83 percent have not taken steps to strengthen their homes.
Yup, that's right. No plans at all. No one listens to those at the local level. That might would help! These bureaucrats know lots about disaster preparedness and recovery! Yeah, buddy!

.Sun Aug 2, 5:37 am ET WASHINGTON – Officers with the U.S. Marshals Service have seized all skin sanitizers and skin protectants, including ingredients and components, at Clarcon Biological Chemistry Laboratory's facility in Roy, Utah, the Food and Drug Administration said.
The FDA also warned the public Saturday not to use any Clarcon products because they contain harmful bacteria and are promoted as antimicrobial agents that claim to treat open wounds, damaged skin, and protect against various infectious diseases. No cases have been reported to the FDA.
Clarcon voluntarily recalled the affected products, marketed under several different brand names, in June 2009, following an FDA inspection that revealed high levels of potentially disease-causing bacteria in the products.
The inspection also uncovered serious deviations from the FDA's regulations, including poor practices that permitted the contamination. The FDA's seizure of these products, along with their ingredients, occurred after Clarcon did not agree to promptly destroy them. The FDA said it is protecting the public by preventing these products from entering the marketplace.
"The FDA is committed to taking enforcement action against firms that do not manufacture drugs in accordance with our current good manufacturing practice requirements," said Deborah M. Autor, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research Office of Compliance.
Clarcon produced and distributed over 800,000 bottles of these products in multiple regions of the country since 2007. Consumers should not use any Clarcon products and should dispose of them in their household trash.
Analyses of several samples of the topical antimicrobial skin sanitizer and skin protectant products revealed high levels of various bacteria. Some of these bacteria can cause opportunistic infections of the skin and underlying tissues. Such infections may need medical or surgical attention and may result in permanent damage, the FDA said.

First swine flu death reported in state SUN HERALD The first swine flu death in Mississippi has been reported, the state Department of Health announced. The victim is a child from Jackson County.
The Health Department said the victim had multiple underlying conditions.
“The death of any child for any reason is tragic,” said State Epidemiologist Dr. Mary Currier. “At this time, there have been 353 deaths attributed to Novel H1N1 (swine) flu throughout the country which is about the same death rate that we see with seasonal influenza. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention each year, on average, 36,000 Americans die from complications due to seasonal flu.”
According to Dr. Currier, Novel swine flu responds well to traditional anti-viral medications. The very young, the elderly, pregnant women and the chronically ill may be at higher risk for complications.

Sand. That non prepared 55% could not have beautiful children like the one with you. If they do? How dare they not think of the ones that rely on them to keep them safe! God bless the vulnerable. May their neighbors, churches, and family recognize the need and personally give a helping hand. Along with a harsh talking to the negligent caregivers.

MICAH WEAVER/AURASURF: CHANCE FOR SURF THIS WEEKEND?! A tropical wave is forecast to approach the state this weekend. On the backside of the wave winds are forecast SSE at 15-25knts. If this happens we could see a building S swell on Sunday ridable at the best south facing beaches in the waist high range. EC will also pick up to chest high and choppy. So there will be waves around. Seems to good to be true... We will update with more tomorrow. Next week will be interesting with a possible minimal hurricane headed through the Caribe. One model showing it hitting PR. Hope that does not happen. The verdict is still out on if it will go up the EC or come into the gulf through hurricane alley. Finally something to talk about and some surf on the way for Florida
PSSSST...... getting ready to head over to EC --gotta get some wave -
